On a cold and gloomy Friday, the Element of Art Studio/Gallery was anything but gloomy. The studio was filled with warm and inviting staff members, Richland Newhope Industries artists and community artists. Every time anybody walked through the front door they were greeted with a huge happy "Hello!" from everyone within the studio.
As beads were being separated for jewelry making and clay was being molded and shaped; music was playing while everyone talked and laughed together. Pat Olsen, who is an artist from the community , has been coming to Element of Art Studio/Gallery for the past three years says "It's a place we can be creative and i love the energy here in the gallery." Not only are the RNI artists friendly, but they have been working hard to create new beautiful pieces of art including jewelry, clay works, paintings, photographs and much more.
Jen Donley comes into Element of Art every other Friday to hold art classes, These classes are open to anyone in the community with a basic knowledge of clay. Each class is $30.00, which pays for all the supplies, clay glazes and firing fees. There are always several Newhope individuals that attend the sessions which integrates the community artists with the RNI artists. Donley states that "i love working in the gallery, it's a relaxing atmosphere in the downtown area."
If you have not found your way into the Gallery, it is definitely worth stopping in to take a look at the art. You may even get the chance to meet a few of the artists. If you have visited the gallery before, then we can't wait to see you again!
